A Friday night blaze in Honokaa caused $30,000 in damage, fire officials said.
Firefighters from three stations responded to the 10:05 p.m. call and had the fire extinguished by 10:27.
The fire burned a storage room at the house on Pohakealani Road. It started burning the living quarters of the home, Hawaii Fire Department officials, but the owner of the house was able to knock down the majority of the flames before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters said the house suffered extensive smoke damage but no injuries were reported.
The cause is under investigation.
